The High Court here has issued notice to Punjab Government and Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar on a PIL seeking setting up of a memorial of Martyr Madan Lal Dhingra at Amritsar.
A division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Mahesh Grover, today issued notices to the respondents for March 16.
Petitioner and practicing advocate HC Arora has stated in his PIL that Martyr Madan Lal Dhingra is considered ‘The First Punjab Rebel Martyr’ and whose ancestral house at Amritsar is at the verge of complete extinction. Stating that part of the house has already been demolished the petitioner sought a direction to the government for its restoration and preservation.
The petition highlighted that citizens in the city had also led a protest march and submitted memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding that a befitting memorial be constructed by the state government at the site of semi-demolished house. |
